At the beginning of 12th Five -Year Plan in 2012, Wuhan University faces the opportunity of “building a Chinese characterized, world-class and internationally renowned high-level university” and accomplished great achievements. In this new year, Wuhan University will capture this great opportunity to go further up based on those achievements got. It is the hope of all students in Wuhan University. In the past decades, Wuhan University has been promoting the education philosophy of “Invention, Innovation and Initiative” through the academic competitions, study construction, and other forms of social practice. Based on the great success of The First and Second Wuhan University International Exchange Camp of Student Organizations, to further strengthen Chinese and foreign university students exchanges and cooperation among communities, highlighting the important role of student organizations in the promotion of students’ overall development and education of internationally competitive abilities, also to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Revolution of 1911, to promote the spirit of uprising, Association of Student Organizations of Wuhan University is to hold The Third Wuhan University International Exchange Camp of Student Organizations. In the Second International Exchange Camp, we will invite members of student organizations from world renowned universities, through varied, lively activities which highlight in academics, including traditional Chinese culture and characteristic Wuhan University Student Organizations activities and "Cultural Tour in Wuhan – Experiencing the Traces of the 1911 Revolution". We will hold a series of activities commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Revolution of 1911. What is more, this exchange camp will provide an important platform to expand the participants’ international horizons, to enhance their qualities as the elites of the society, to strengthen their leadership awareness, and to further carry out the idea of "Invention, Innovation and Initiative".

As a key university in “Project 985” (Project 985 was initiated by ex-president JIANG-Zemin in 1998 for establishing China’s Ivy League universities.) and “Project 211” (Project 211 was initiated in 1995 and aims at cultivating high-level elite for national economic and social development strategies.), Wuhan University is directly under the administration of the Education Ministry of the People's Republic of China. Boasting a history of 117 years, the university can date back to Ziqiang Institute founded in 1893 by Zhang Zhidong, governor of Hubei and Hunan Provinces in late Qing Dynasty. Rolling physical features with the picturesque Luojia Hill in it and the beautiful East Lake by its side, the poetic scenery have won Wuhan University honor of “the most beautiful university in China”. The university's course over the past 100 years has been closely bound up with the prosperity and decline of the motherland. With the motto of “get bestirred, develop perseverance, aspire after truth and blaze new trails”, Wuhan University has always regarded China's rejuvenation as its own responsibility and has been making contributions to the prosperity of China and the progress of mankind. In 1999, the university was listed as one of China's most celebrated universities by Science, an authoritative periodical in the international scientific field.

The exchange camp consists of five sections, namely invitational contests, traditional Chinese culture workshops, development forum of international student organizations, on-site visit to memorial places of the Xinhai Revolution and close contact with Chinese culture and natural scenery. The series of invitational contests include competitions of international collegiate academic report of polar expedition, business case analysis, Information Literacy, and the “Happy Chinese Bridge” contest themed in Chinese language and culture. The workshops are designed to equip participants with knowledge of traditional Chinese culture through seminars on Chinese painting and calligraphy, paper cutting, martial arts, tea ceremony, classical poetry chanting, etc. The development forum provides student leaders with a platform for mutual learning and exchanges over topics like qualities of international talents, development and cooperation of student organizations in the context of globalization. In the last section, participants will take a tour of the Three Gorges.

As deepening of globalization, student organizations in top universities in China yearn for exchanges and cooperation with their counterparts overseas. This exchange camp is a great opportunity for world - wide student leaders to learn from each other, improve their capabilities of organizing and management, sharpen their thinking and eloquence, enhance their tactics of handling conflicts and seeking agreement while shelving difference, and in the mean time exercise their English proficiency. The exchange camp is a stage for cultural interaction and exhibition of passion and vitality of invited student organizations.

Activity Introduction

1. Opening Ceremony of the Second Wuhan University International Exchange Camp of Student Organizations
Significance: Organizing the camp is a pioneering event in development of student organizations of Wuhan University, which attracts great attentions of Wuhan University leadership and related supporting committees. It will be a grand occasion by leaders and student organizations of Wuhan University, and by invitees from universities and colleges all over the world.

2.International Forum on Development of Students Organizations
Significance: Leaders of student organizations from world-renowned universities gather together at the forum to discuss topics such as talents’ training. By the construction of the student organizations, collision of the thoughts and the exchange of the experience of echelon personnel training and management, the university community managers can gain a lot from the discussions and introductions from each other, thus will better promote the development of the world-renowned universities' student organizations and foster student's leadership and elite quality. The main parts of the forum are collecting programs, speech, group discussions and summary reports. The essays written by the representatives of all colleges will be collected to form a book eventually as this forum's results.

3. The Section Themed in Discussion of Cultivating Professionalism of University Students in the Internet Age
Significance: In accordance with the educational philosophy of "Invention, Innovation, Initiative" of Wuhan University, the section is aimed at cultivating university students’ information literacy needed for fierce competitions in the age of information.
Event: International Collegiate Information Literacy Contest.

4. The Section Themed in Experiencing the Charm of Chinese and Western Literature, Cultivating the Literary Quality of Contemporary University Students
Significance: The classic masterpieces, being the symbol of the human beings’ spirit and wisdom, are the treasures cherished by the whole world as well as the essential resources of human spirits which play the roles as the witness of history, recorder of civilization and the breeder of human beings. Confronted with the challenge of consumerization and the corrosion of utilitarianism, this section aims to enhance the aesthetic and literary quality of university students through the appreciation of the Chinese and western classical masterpieces.

5.The section themed in discussing impact on Polar Regions by global climate change
Significance: Since Polar Regions are natural indicator and amplifier of global climate and environmental changes, the section is designed to promote university students' concern towards polar expedition and global environmental protection by acquainting them with knowledge of ice melting in Polar Regions. And it will facilitate practical utilization of modern science and technology in polar expedition; in the mean time enhance students' efforts in seeking solutions to environmental deterioration in the regions.
Event:

1) Academic Report of Polar Expedition Invitational Contest. The contest is themed in utilization of air to ground observation technologies such as GPS, remote sensing and geographic information technologies to investigate Polar Regions especially extreme hostile and sparsely populated areas in the South Pole so as to further discuss Polar Region's role in global climate change as indicator and amplifier.

2) Joint declaration. A joint declaration on polar expedition, global environmental protection, and initiation of a green lifestyle featured in sustainability and low carbon emission should be passed unanimously in the contest.

3) Exhibition visit. Visit to an exhibition of research fruits of 26 year polar expedition of Wuhan University, and acquiring knowledge about current research in this regard in China.

6.The section of making a harmonious world and experiencing Chinese traditional culture
Significance: Through close contact with classical Chinese poetry, paintings and calligraphies, martial arts, traditional Chinese dancing and drama, etc., participants can fully experience unique charm of Chinese traditional culture, which takes peace and harmony as its core.

1) “Happy Chinese Bridge” invitational contest, which includes four items namely chanting classical Chinese poems, Chinese speech contest, talent show, and knowledge contest.

2) Traditional Chinese culture workshops. Topics range from Chinese painting and calligraphy, paper cutting, bamboo and silk manuscripts, martial arts and tea ceremony.
